Xi Pi History

On July 18, 1974, an audacious bold group of Colorado Springs Omega Men founded the Xi Pi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The nine founding members were Samuel C. Hunter, Jr.Willie M. Bratcher, T.C. Chambers, Harold M. Clay, Andrew Gaither, Jerome D. Reed, Delano Robinson, Ernest E. Varner, and James L. Washington.

Xi Pi continues to be an active participant in the life of Colorado Springs. Over the year the chapter has been involved in a variety of community activities, such as sponsoring a high school academic incentive stipend, providing higher education scholarship, participating in the Colorado State Adopt a Highway Program, tutoring life skills classes for young men at the Tutmose Academy and supporting community Angel Tree Projects.

Embracing the legacy set by its founders, Xi Pi continues to be a dynamic service organization in the Colorado Springs community. The chapter focuses its energies on programs and activities that will have the greatest positive impact on the lives of Colorado Springs residents. Some of the key programs are providing scholarships annually for college bound seniors; Holiday Giving Projects to assist families in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas; Mentoring troubled youth at the Colorado Springs Teen Court; and supporting the Educating Children of Color and The African American Youth Leadership Conference.

In 2003, the Xi Pi Chapter established their 501 (c)(3) Uplift Foundation. The nonprofit foundation is designed to provide an increased and sustained level of support for educational and mentoring activities. Certain programs will operate under the direction of the Uplift Foundation. Support for Foundation and Chapter programs is provided through personal and corporate contribution, an annual Golf Tournament and the Omega Showboat Talent Competition.
